Know how your Fantasy Football League is scored

I am jumping a step ahead on this first one. I will talk about the different types of Fantasy Football Leagues in my next post but I really wanted to discuss scoring systems first.

Know how your Fantasy Football League is scored. This is the first piece of information that will help you determine your player rankings. You may see rankings from Yahoo, ESPN or other various sources, but be careful to check what scoring system they used to rate these players. Do touchdown passes count as 4 or 6 points? Do you get a point for 10, 25 or 50 yards passing? Does my defense also get points for punt and kickoff returns? These are just a few examples of how different leagues score. Each scoring parameter is important, because a player or defense can be more or less valuable based on the scoring system.

Another scoring option to monitor closely is bonus points for reaching certain in-game stats. Does your league give bonus points for every 100 yards rushing, every reception or 300 yards passing? All of these points add up... for I have won and lost games by 1/10th of a point.
