Big Boy Takes Five Against Marquette County CVB:
Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 10:18PM After taking five points in the season opener and finding themselves tied for 2nd place, Big Boy looked to continue to have success as they faced Marquette County CVB. Big Boy had a full roster this week as Mike Kelly joined his new team. Since Marquette Country CVB always seems to elevate their games against them, Big Boy fully expected to have to grind out their victories.
Marquette County CVB captain Denise Gurnack struggled by leaving 9-counts in Game One, and Big Boy realized they had an opening to sneak out a victory. Kelly found a nice stroke early to lead the team with a 202. Dave Stevenson (192), Keith Dickson (186), Matt Rayome (169), and Steve Whelan (157) were able to help overcome the 189 by John Kurkowski for the Game One victory- 1166 – 1108. Marquette County CVB would not give up that easily however as they found their stroke in Game Two. Dickson (207), Stevenson (190), and Kelly (182) tried to lead Big Boy to another win, but Bob Harrington (213), Kurkowski (204), Mike Black (194), and Gurnack (182) had too much for them as Big Boy fell in Game Two- 1145 – 1217. Determined to take at least five points, Big Boy rallied in Game Three led by the 246 by Stevenson. Dickson (203) and Whelan (182) also bowled well to help Big Boy overcome the scores by Harrington (213) and Gurnack (182) as Big Boy took Game Three- 1194 – 1124. Big Boy also won the overall match 3505 – 3449 to take five points for the second straight week.
